Jason Tsai founded Enta (the name formed from a combination of ‘England’ and ‘Taiwan’) in 1990, when he started distributing computer components from his garage in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Enta Technologies Ltd rapidly grew into one of the UK’s leading IT distributors. By 1995, when Enta moved into purpose built premises in Telford, Jason was already looking to expand his business through diversification and spotted an opportunity in the market to provide Internet access services. His second business, Entanet International Ltd, was set up in 1996 and has grown into a leading voice and data communications provider.
Jason’s entrepreneurial instinct kicked in again in 1999, when he set up his third company, Entacall Telecommunications Ltd, to provide traditional telecoms services to his existing Entanet reseller partners. Entacall was later merged into the operations of Entanet in order to respond to market demand for more converged voice and data services. Then, in 2003, he established his fourth business, Entamedia Ltd, as a separate company providing marketing and design services to its sister companies and external clients.
Twenty years on, Entagroup comprises three successful IT-based companies distributing an enormous range of hardware and software products to thousands of channel resellers; an extensive portfolio of leading edge, high quality and reliable voice and data communications services; and a selection of online and offline marketing and design services. This combination of products and services represents a compelling proposition for the UK IT channel, with many resellers using all three businesses to serve their customers.
Enta Technologies maintains the highest levels of distributor accreditation with vendor leaders including Microsoft, Intel, Nvidia, NETGEAR, Belkin, and D-Link to help its resellers compete aggressively. Meanwhile, Entanet’s massively extended national next generation network, market leading adoption of 21CN across the UK, and high profile relationship with BT Wholesale gives partners access to the very latest voice and data access technologies. The group employs over 175 staff, has a combined turnover of over $200million and Jason is still actively involved in the overall operations of all of the companies.
Commenting on his nomination, Jason Tsai said: “I’m delighted to be nominated as a finalist for this award. As Entagroup’s twentieth year in business, 2010 is already a very special one for me and all of our employees, customers and suppliers. It marks a real achievement in a turbulent economy and it has been made even more special with this finalist nomination.”
The Comms Business Awards recognise excellence throughout the channel with awards categories for resellers, distributors, vendors and network operators. Entanet has received additional recognition with a second finalist nomination in the category of Hosted IP Telephony Supplier of the Year and is also listed in the category of ISP of the Year which will be decided based on the results of a reader vote.
